Soul Asylum - Made To Be Broken (Twin Tone 1986) - 320K third album for Dave Pirner and his associates. A band that I never loved to madness certainly, but for whom I have a certain reverence. If conquered, so to speak, on the field, April 2, 1989, on the stage of Modern Casino San Giovanni in Marignano. It had to be a legendary night for me, Naked Prey, Leaving Trains, and Soul Asylum as a single date. I went there for Naked Prey, mind you, but not played Naked Prey, unfortunately. On the other hand, after the disappointment after the Leaving Trains, I immersed myself in the sounds of band in Minneapolis. It was a huge concert, magnetic, four cats, as usual, but the Soul Asylum put us to the heart. They were no longer one of the many clones of Husker Du, had grown enormously. Dave Pirner had everything to break through, the gossip says that was the companion of Winona Ryder, and Winona Ryder at the time led to Hollywood, but the true success led them to slowly decline. I saw them the following year in London, was the touring of And the Horse They Rode On, an album that sold very little and was even retired from A & M, but I confess that once were devastating. Made To Be Broken is their very first LP, produced by Bob Mould, was a successful indie band that allowed him to climb the charts and earn a respectable reputation. Enjoy.
